WALKS & HIKING ROUTES

HINOJARES CIRCULAR WALK
This is one of our favourite local walks and a perfect way to experience the landscape that surrounds Casería 7 Fuentes. The route connects Aldea de Cuenca with Hinojares through the beautiful valley of the Río Turrilla, passing dramatic badlands, natural springs, quiet mountain trails and some of the most characteristic scenery of this part of the Sierra. It is a wonderful walk for guests who want to experience the real landscape of the area rather than just visiting the main tourist spots.
The route passes through several marked trails including the SL-A 198 Cuenca–Hinojares and the Sendero de Siete Fuentes, with beautiful views over the river valley, the Cerrada Bridge and the springs around Aldea de Cuenca. The circular version is around 12.8 km with approximately 493 m of elevation gain and takes around 3 to 3.5 hours depending on pace.
This is a fantastic walk for guests staying with us because it starts right on our doorstep and offers a real sense of the landscape and history of Aldea de Cuenca, including the famous Seven Springs that give Casería 7 Fuentes its name.
Good for: Couples, active walkers, photographers, guests wanting a true local route
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance / Duration: 12.8 km – around 3 to 3.5 hours
Tip: Best enjoyed in spring, autumn or cooler mornings, as summer heat can make the exposed sections much harder. Good walking shoes and water are essential, and some parts are not ideal for inexperienced walkers.
GUAZALAMANCO
The Guazalamanco Waterfall is one of the most beautiful natural walks in the area and a fantastic option for guests looking for a shorter route with a real reward at the end. Hidden within the Sierra near Pozo Alcón, this peaceful trail follows the river through pine forest and rocky landscape before reaching the impressive Cascada de Guazalamanco, where water flows down through a narrow gorge into natural pools below.
The walk itself is enjoyable and accessible, making it ideal for a half-day outing without needing a full mountain hike. Depending on the starting point, the route is usually around 4–6 km and is considered easy to moderate, with shaded sections and lovely scenery throughout. In spring and after rainfall, the waterfall is at its most spectacular, while in summer it offers a cooler, greener escape from the heat. It is a popular route for both visitors and locals and pairs well with a stop at Embalse de La Bolera or lunch nearby afterwards.
From Casería 7 Fuentes, it is around 25–30 minutes by car and is one of the easiest nature walks to recommend for guests wanting a scenic route without a full-day trek.
Good for: Families, couples, photographers, shorter scenic walks, half-day trips
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Distance / Duration: Around 4–6 km – approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours
Tip: Spring is the best time to visit when the waterfall is strongest. Wear proper walking shoes as some sections near the river can be uneven or slippery after rain.
LAS CHIMENEAS DE LAS HADAS
Located near Cuevas del Campo in the Granada Geopark, the Sendero de las Chimeneas de las Hadas takes you through a dramatic landscape of badlands, steep ridges and incredible rock formations shaped by erosion over thousands of years. The famous “fairy chimneys” — tall natural stone towers rising from the landscape — make this one of the most visually unique walks near Casería 7 Fuentes.
The circular route begins near the Mirador del Negratín and follows trails above and down towards the Embalse del Negratín, with spectacular views across the reservoir and towards Cerro Jabalcón. The official SL-A 314 route is usually around 7–8 km depending on the version taken, with moderate difficulty, although some sections require extra care due to steep descents, narrow ridges and exposure for anyone affected by heights. Several route descriptions specifically warn about vertigo on the descent and ridge sections.
This is an excellent recommendation for guests looking for something a little different from the forest walks around Pozo Alcón — it feels almost cinematic, with landscapes that look more like a desert canyon than inland Andalucía.
Difficulty: Moderate (with some exposed sections)
Distance / Duration: Around 7–8 km – approximately 2 to 3 hours
Tip: Not ideal for anyone with vertigo, as some sections involve narrow ridges and steeper descents. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit, and plenty of water is essential as there is very little shade.

EL CABAÑAS
For guests looking for a more adventurous mountain route, this is one of the most rewarding hikes in the area. Starting from Aldea de Cuenca and climbing towards El Cabañas, the highest peak in the Sierra de Pozo Alcón, the walk takes you through dry riverbeds, forest tracks, old shepherd paths and some of the wildest landscapes surrounding Casería 7 Fuentes. It is a true mountain walk that feels far removed from the more gentle village routes and offers spectacular panoramic views across the Sierra de Cazorla and beyond.
The route follows the Arroyo de las Palomas before climbing towards Puerto Llano and continuing on to El Cabañas, passing a shepherd’s hut and a natural spring along the way. According to the Wikiloc route, the full circular walk covers around 24 km with approximately 1,200 m of accumulated ascent and takes around 7 to 7.5 hours, making it one of the more demanding hikes we recommend. It is best suited to experienced walkers who are comfortable with longer distances and significant elevation, but the reward at the summit is one of the best viewpoints in the region.
Because the route begins so close to Casería 7 Fuentes, it is a fantastic option for guests wanting a full day in the mountains without needing to drive far. It is one of the best ways to experience the wilder side of this landscape and a real favourite for strong hikers.
Good for: Experienced walkers, mountain lovers, full-day hikes, panoramic views, adventurous guests
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult
Distance / Duration: 24 km – around 7 to 7.5 hours
Tip: Start early, especially in warmer months, and bring plenty of water, food and proper hiking footwear. This is a serious mountain route rather than a casual walk, so good preparation is important.
PILÓN AZUL
This is one of the easiest and most rewarding short walks in the area, perfect for guests looking for a beautiful natural spot without needing a long hike. Starting from the small village of Belerda, the walk follows a peaceful riverside path through orchards, old mills and shaded woodland before reaching the stunning Cascada del Pilón Azul — a striking waterfall that drops into a deep turquoise pool surrounded by rocky canyon walls.
The route is short and very accessible, making it ideal for families, relaxed walkers or as part of a half-day trip combined with Cueva del Agua and the Santuario de Tíscar. The Wikiloc route from Belerda is less than 1 km each way (around 15–20 minutes walking time) and is considered easy, with a circular layout and very little elevation gain. Recent improvements including a wooden bridge and metal walkways make access much easier and allow visitors to reach the waterfall safely.
One of the best parts of this visit is stopping in Belerda itself, where there is a great local kiosko/bar that makes the perfect place for a drink or coffee before or after the walk. It gives the whole trip a lovely local feel and makes this one of the easiest recommendations for guests who want something scenic without a full day in the mountains.
Good for: Families, couples, shorter scenic walks, photographers, easy half-day trips
Difficulty: Easy
Distance / Duration: Around 1–2 km return – approximately 30 to 45 minutes
Tip: A perfect walk to combine with Cueva del Agua and the Santuario de Tíscar. Visit in spring or after rainfall for the strongest waterfall, and stop in Belerda for a drink at the kiosko afterwards.
CERRADA DEL RÍO CASTRIL
This is one of the most spectacular short walks in the area and one of the best reasons to visit the beautiful village of Castril. The Cerrada del Río Castril follows a dramatic narrow gorge where the river cuts through limestone cliffs, with the famous Pasarela de la Cerrada — a suspended wooden walkway built into the rock face above the canyon — offering incredible views over the rushing water below.
Although the walk itself is relatively short, it feels very dramatic and memorable, making it perfect for guests who want something visually impressive without committing to a full mountain hike. The route is easy to moderate depending on pace, and the village of Castril itself is lovely to explore before or afterwards, with whitewashed streets, viewpoints and good local restaurants. It is around 40–45 minutes by car from Casería 7 Fuentes and works perfectly as a half-day or full-day trip when combined with lunch in the village.
Good for: Couples, families, photographers, scenic walks, half-day trips
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Distance / Duration: Around 2–3 km – approximately 1 to 1.5 hours
Tip: Visit earlier in the day if possible, especially in summer or weekends, as the Pasarela can get busy. Comfortable shoes are recommended, and it pairs perfectly with lunch in Castril afterwards.
